About

Cape Town: You can start the tour at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend our tour offices outside the Two Oceans Aquarium (stop 1), 81 Long Street (stop 5) and Camps Bay (stop 8).

Joburg: You can hop on at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend you start your tour from The Zone @ Rosebank (stop 1) – the Gautrain station is walking distance and there's ample parking available if arriving by car.

Our hop on hop off buses run every day of the year, but on certain days we suspend specific routes. Please be sure to check our latest timetable.

Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. If you’re going to hop on and off with us on Christmas and/or New Year’s Day in Cape Town, please note which stops won’t be open and on which days.

Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. You can hop on and off at The Zone @ Rosebank, Zoo Lake, Johannesburg Zoo, Carlton Centre, the Mining District Walk and Gold Reef City Casino Hotel (see the theme park dates below) 365 days a year. Here's a list of the rest of our stops and when they’re closed: 

  • Ditsong National Museum of Military History: Good Friday, 25 December
  • James Hall Museum of Transport: Every Monday, every third weekend of the month, 25 and 26 December
  • Constitution Hill: Good Friday, 25 and 26 December, 1 January. Closes at 3pm on 24 and 31 December
  • Apartheid Museum: Good Friday, 25 December, 1 January 
  • Gold Reef City Theme Park: Mondays and Tuesdays (except during Gauteng public school holidays), 25 December
  • SAB World of Beer – 25 December
  • Sci-Bono Discovery Centre – 25 December, 1 January and Good Friday
  • Origins Centre at Wits: 25 December to 4 January 
  • Braamfontein: Doubleshot coffee & tea – 16, 25 and 26 December, 1 January

Here’s a list of stops on the Soweto leg of our City Tour and Soweto Combo that are closed on certain days:

There are three ways to buy tickets:

  • On the bus, at any one of our scheduled stops along the way

  • At our tour offices. In Cape Town, there's one at the V&A Waterfront81 Long Street and Camps Bay. In Joburg, our tour office is situated at The Zone @ Rosebank

  • Discounted online – buy tickets for Cape Town or Joburg (please note that Pensioner Special tickets are not available online) 

  • Pensioner Special tickets can only be bought at one of our ticket offices or on the bus on presentation of a South African ID

Yes, all our buses are fully equipped with card facilities. Please note, however, that we do not accept American Express cards.

Yes, majority of our buses on the City Tour to Table Mountain and Mini Peninsula Tour in Cape Town are wheelchair friendly. All our buses in Joburg are wheelchair friendly. If you're unsure or require assistance, please ask one of our friendly staff members to help you. 

By law a passenger bus is not required to have seat belts on all its seats. The only seats that do require a seat belt are the ones that have no seat directly in front of them. For this reason, we have a limited number of buses equipped with seat belts. 

If Classic tickets are purchased at one our of tour offices, they are valid for that day only, or for the next consecurtive two or three days if you bought a Premium or Delux ticket. If Classic, Premium or Delux tickets are bought online, they are valid for 14 days from the date of purchase.  

Please note that Cape Explorer tickets are valid only for the date of travel. 

Tickets do not include entrance fees to the stops. However, if you check the back of your ticket, you'll see a list of stops where you'll receive a discount on entrance fees – simply show your City Sightseeing ticket when you enter.

No, a Classic ticket is valid for an entire day, a Premium ticket for two consecutive days and a Deluxe ticket for three consecutive days – until the last departure. This means you can hop on and hop off as many times as you'd like at no additional cost.

You need to book a seat on our Cape Explorer: Cape Point and Cape Explorer: Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour  day tours. Buying your ticket online, entitles you to a discount. Seats on the bus are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The City Tour to Table Mountain includes a stop at Table Mountain.

The Mini Peninsula Tour takes you on a scenic route that includes Kirstenbosch and offers a link to the Constantia Wine Bus. 

Cape Town:

  • Summer: First bus departs from bus stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at 8:20am with regular departures thereafter

  • The Premium ticket costs R300 per adult, while the online price is R280 (save R20)

This ticket is valid for two consecutive days and can be used on any of the following tours in Cape Town:

  • City Tour to Table Mountain
  • Mini Peninsula Tour
  • Downtown Tour

  • Waterfront Harbour Cruise OR Canal Cruise
  • Sunset Bus (in summer)

This ticket is valid for three consecutive days and can be used on any of the following tours in Cape Town:

Yes, a Premium ticket has to be used over two consecutive days. In Cape Town, the free tours you receive with this deal (Waterfront Harbour Cruise and Sunset Bus in summer) can be used on the third consecutive day.

The Blue Route Pass is a one-day red bus ticket, plus free entry to three of Cape Town’s top attractions along our Mini Peninsula Tour. It gives locals and visitors the opportunity to create their own travel itinerary with our open-top, double-decker red buses.

The Blue Route Pass is a one-day red bus ticket, plus free entry to three of Cape Town’s top attractions along our Mini Peninsula Tour. It gives locals and visitors the opportunity to create their own travel itinerary with our open-top, double-decker red buses.  

The Mini Peninsula Tour is one of four tours you can hop on, hop off with a Classic, Premium or Deluxe ticket. Red bus ticket holders get discounts at select stops, not free entry. 
 

The Sunset Bus takes you on an unforgettable sunset trip. It provides glimpses of the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Signal Hill and great photo opportunities of Cape Town settling into nightlife.

The Sunset Bus is available from 23 September 2017 to 1 May 2018 and departs daily from stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront between 5.30pm and 6pm. 

Make sure to arrive at stop 1 half an hour before the departure time. The tour duration is two to three hours.

The Constantia Wine Bus is an extension of the Mini Peninsula Tour. It starts at Constantia Nek and takes you into Constantia Valley, where you can explore three wine estates: Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm.

  • Entrance fees, wine tastings and wine are for your own account

The Constantia Wine Bus is a hop on hop off tour and is an extension of the Mini Peninsula Tour. It starts at Constantia Nek and takes you into Constantia Valley, where you can explore three wine estates: Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm.

The Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour is a fully guided (in English) day excursion to the picturesque Cape Winelands, in a luxury air-conditioned coach. You will explore the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch winelands, and even stop for an iconic postcard view of Table Mountain from Bloubergstrand.

  • This day tour to the Cape Winelands includes a wine and cheese tasting, a cellar tour a wine tasting at a Stellenbosch wine farm

Our Cape Town City Tour to Table Mountain offers visitors the most direct and hassle-free way to get to Table Mountain. Start your tour from the V&A Waterfront. See our detailed timetable here.

No, we do not go to Robben Island since we are a bus service. You can hop off at stop 2 (the Clock Tower) for the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, from where a ferry will take you to this historical site.

The Cape Explorer day tours offers fully guided (in English) day excursions to Cape Point and the Cape Winelands in a luxury air-conditioned coach.

On the Cape Point Tour, spend the day exploring this spectacular nature reserve, part of the Cape Floral Kingdom World Heritage Site, with a stop en route at Boulders Beach to visit the African penguins. This day tour to the Cape of Good Hope includes your pass into Cape Point.

With the Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour, you will spend the day exploring the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch winelands, and even stop for an iconic postcard view of Table Mountain from Bloubergstrand. This day tour to the Cape Winelands – which includes a wine and cheese tasting, a cellar tour in Franschhoek and a wine tasting at a Stellenbosch wine farm – is a must-do for visitors and locals alike.

The Cape Point Tour includes entrance to the Cape Point Nature Reserve and a live guided tour in English. Excluded: Lunch, entrance to Boulders Beach and the cost of the Flying Dutchman funicular (if required) at Cape Point.

The Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour  includes two wine tastings, a cellar tour and a live guided tour in English. No alcohol will be served to persons younger than 18. Excluded: lunch, extra wine tastings and/or drinks.

The Cape Explorer: Cape Point Tour departs daily with staggered departure times from 8.55am from select City Sightseeing bus stops in Camps Bay, Sea Point, Green Point and the city, as well as City Sightseeing tour offices at stop 1 (V&A Waterfront) and stop 5 (Long Street). In peak season the timetable starts earlier.

The Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with staggered departure times from 8.25am from select City Sightseeing bus stops in Camps Bay, Sea Point, Green Point and the city, as well as City Sightseeing tour offices at stop 1 (V&A Waterfront) and stop 5 (Long Street).

Be sure to book your ticket in advance and book your tickets online for a R20 discount! 

It is recommended to book your Cape Explorer Cape Point and the Franschhoek & Stellenbosch Winelands Tour tickets either online or from City Sightseeing ticket offices as limited tickets are available from bus drivers, subject to availability. When booking, make sure you state your specific pick-up point. Tickets are only valid for stipulated day of booking.

The Cape Explorer day tours return approximately at 17h30 where it will guests can either hop off the V&A Waterfront (stop1) or Long Street (stop 5). From here guests can hop on any red bus at no extra charge to be returned to their respective stops where they hopped on earlier the morning.

No, the Soweto tour is only offered as a combo with our Joburg City Tour.

The first bus departs from Gold Reef City Casino Hotel (stop 13) at 10.05am and every 65 minutes thereafter until 3.20pm, which is the last departure. We recommend you hop on the Green Tour at The Zone @ Rosebank (stop 1), switch over to the Johannesurg City Tour at Constituition Hill (stop 5) and switch to the minibus at Gold Reef City Casino Hotel (stop 13). Click here to view the timetable. The Sunday Sizzler special is a one-day Joburg City Tour ticket for R160. It can only be bought online and it can only be used on Sundays.

In Cape Town:

  • Children aged five to 17 years pay R100, R200 and R200 for a Classic, Premium and Delux ticket respectively.

  • Children under five ride for free (only two children allowed per paying adult).

  • South African pensioners get a 50% discount on all hop on hop off bus and Waterfront Harbour Cruise tickets every Tuesday and Friday (including public holidays). This special is available all year round, except from 14 December to 14 January. Please note that we do not currently offer pensioner's discounts for the Cape Point Explorer tour. 

In Joburg

  • Children aged five to 17 years pay R100 for a 1-day ticket and R200 for a 2-day ticket.

  • South African pensioners get a 50% discount on our City Tour from Monday to Friday (including public holidays). Our Pensioner Special is not available online, but you can buy your ticket at our ticket offices or when you hop on the bus at any of our stops. Just bring your barcoded South African ID along to qualify.

The Kids' Club vouchers are valid for four weeks – one week before the date of birth and three weeks after the birthday.

A few terms and conditions to take note of: 

  1. You will receive a free birthday ticket for you and two friends (aged 5 to 15) every year to celebrate your birthday with us, up to and including your 15th birthday. After that, you will need to buy your tickets as usual.
  2. Registrations need to be made a minimum of two weeks prior to the child’s birthday in order to qualify for the free vouchers.
  3. The free vouchers are valid for four weeks – one week before the date of birth and three weeks after the birthday.
  4. The two friends accompanying the child need to be U15 years of age.

No, your Kids' Club voucher is valid for four weeks and can not be extended.

In Joburg we provide a shuttle for City Sightseeing ticket holders from certain hotels in Sandton and Melrose Arch to our new ticket office and stop at The Zone @ Rosebank. 

No, we do not provide parking. In Cape Town, we recommend parking at the V&A Waterfront – home to our tour office and stop 1 of our tours.

In Joburg, we recommend parking at The Zone @ Rosebank (stop 1).

The Travel Depot is an information and booking hub located at 81 Long Street (stop 5) in Cape Town. Here, locals and visitors will find several tour operators under one roof for their convenience. 

The Travel Depot offers City Sightseeing passengers the opportunity to hop off the bus and have access to the best travel experiences in and around the city. It showcases a range of activities, including helicopter rides, shark cage-diving and more. Cape Town Tourism provides general tourist information.

Yes, you should – unless it's a guide dog. Many of the stops where you'll be hopping off don't allow any animals, but will make provision for a guide dog. 

In the event that you have forgotten something on the bus, please notify us immediately. You can call us on 021 511 6000 or email us at info@citysightseeing.co.za with a description of what you've lost, as well as your contact details. If it has been picked up by a passenger and handed to us or a red bus staff member has found it, we will make sure it is returned to you.
